What is mscorsvw.exe?

Mscorsvw.exe is a component process of Windows and is also known as the .NET Framework Optimization Service.

It is used to optimize the system in order to enable faster launching of apps. Basically, mscorsvw.exe is used to pre-compile .NET assemblies in the background. After the installation of .NET or an application that makes use of this framework, mscorsvw.exe appears in the Task Manager. Normally, high priority assemblies will be compiled in a time of 5 to 10 minutes. Next, it will wait for your computer to be free of all processor intensive tasks and then the low priority assemblies will be compiled. Finally, when the all the assemblies have been precompiled, mscorsvw.exe will shut down.

If your computer is a little too slow than you would like it to be, here is a neat fix. Rather than terminating Mscorsvw.exe, why not go for a ST Cleaner scan that helps remove even the tiniest bit of junk traces as well as tinkers with settings so that the system performs at its optimal level.

Can mscorsvw.exe be safely turned off?

Mscorsvw.exe aids your system in the launching of apps in a fast manner. Since this process is using the CPU and resources to perform an important task, we do not recommend that you turn it off. We also suggest that you do not kill the .NET Framework Optimization Service from the Task Manager.

However, if the process annoys you, there is a workaround you can use to get things done quickly. One way to do this is to speed up the .NET Framework Optimization Service. Initially, it will only be using one CPU core, but you can opt to allocate more resources to it. Using this method will allow mscorsvw.exe to complete its pre-compiling tasks much faster, which means it will turn off earlier than before.

In order to speed up the .NET Framework Optimization Service, you will have to run this .NET Framework optimization speedup script provided by Microsoft. For PowerShell users, Microsoft has also provided a PowerShell script to speed up the optimization service. Download the script onto your system and execute it from the admin PowerShell Command Prompt. You will have to run the script under either RemoteSigned or Unrestricted PowerShell execution policy. Otherwise, it might not work.

Please note that only .NET Framework 4 will experience a drastic speedup. If you are using .NET Framework 2 or 3.5, you might not experience a tangible speedup.

Getting more PC speed when too many .exe processes are running

The CPU or the Central Processing Unit is the main foundation of your computer on which it’s performance hinges upon. It is overburdened with way too many processes and tasks, it will slow down drastically. In such cases, it will take ages to accomplish even the smallest of tasks. In order to avoid this, you can either increase the processing power of your computer or be careful in allocating tasks to it.

However, if a lot of processes are running in your system and you want to improve the computer’s processing speed, keep reading!

Open the Task Manager and under the Processes tab, note any processes that are consuming more than 10% of the system’s capability on a regular basis.

For users of Windows 10, move over to the Startup tab and find the startup items correlated with the items you checked before. Uncheck them and press OK. Finally, restart your computer to prevent these programs from launching at boot.

For users of Windows 7, close the Task Manager and open the Run dialog by pressing Windows + R. Next, type in msconfig.exe in order to open the System Configuration window. Now, head over to Startup tab and find the startup items correlated with the items you checked before. Uncheck them and press OK. Restart your PC now to apply the changes you just made.
