How to Do OneDrive iOS Cache Clear

It’s convenient to use OneDrive on iOS as the app integrates flawlessly with the Files app, syncs documents smoothly, and is perfectly designed. And it hardly shows any issues due to the iOS app management features. But no app can be perfect and users can get frustrated over one issue or the other.

When the Microsoft cloud storage starts to operate weirdly, there is no need to reinstall or remove the app. Simply remove the OneDrive cache. In today’s blog, we will be discussing exactly that.

How to Clear OneDrive Cache

OneDrive caches store a specific amount of data for quick speed, such as thumbnails, placeholder icons, and recently used documents. However unnecessary data can usually result in a poorly functioning or slow app. Therefore, it’s a must to clear the cache.

Luckily, the OneDrive app for iOS comes with an in-built option for this purpose. But it is not shown in plain sight. Therefore, users have to go through the OneDrive Settings panel.

  1. Launch the OneDrive app and click on the Profile icon present in the upper left corner.
  2. A menu will show up. Click on Settings.
  3. Go down to the More section, and click on Advanced.
  4. Confirm Clear Cache.
  5. A spinning circle will be shown to notify that OneDrive is removing the cache. After the spinning circle goes away, it means the cache is done with.
  6. Go back and use the app again to enjoy a smooth user experience.

Why Is It Important to Clear the Cache

Overall, iOS is an expert at handling caches of all apps. This is why it doesn’t have a manual system-based method to remove cache, which is found on Android. But this doesn’t mean that apps function optimally all the time. Ahead, we have mentioned common OneDrive issues that users face when the cache isn’t cleared.

OneDrive Consumes A Lot of Space

If you notice that your OneDrive app is taking up too much space, it is probably due to huge files stored offline. If the app is consuming some gigabytes on an iPad or iPhone, it reflects a cache storage problem.

If users want to check the amount of space occupied by OneDrive, simply launch the iOS Settings app and click on General.

Tap on iPhone/iPad Storage

Press OneDrive.

If the Documents & Data section showcases a big figure, remove the app cache.

Files Don’t Upload Easily

Another issue that accumulated cache on OneDrive causes is a failure of file upload. Some files either keep looping in the Uploading stage, or upload incorrectly. But a clean cache offers a fresh slate for the app. All stubborn files will upload easily.

Pictures Stop Syncing

The app’s Camera Upload feature shows another way to back up and sync images, particularly if using iCloud is hard for you. But when there’s a lot of cache, images fail to sync.

OneDrive Crashes A Lot

This is not common with OneDrive. However, if you face a lot of crashing on any iOS device, removing the cache will delete useless forms of data and old files. That should fix the problem.

Unable to Store Files Offline

If the app does not complete the request to store a file online and becomes stuck during the download phase, it is another reason to remove the cache. Moreover, users should also clear the cache when files stored on OneDrive cannot directly open from within the app.

Files App Changes Are Difficult

Did you add OneDrive as a storage space in the Files app? If you don’t notice any changes to files and folders from the Files app, deleting the cache will fix it.

So, this is how and all the reasons why users should clear the cache on OneDrive. But don’t do it frequently as it will only slow the app down. Allow iOS to handle the app cache automatically, and only take matters in your hands when you notice the issues discussed above.
