Fix the lags and freezes in Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

ST Cleaner follows Google Software Principles

Where this game is doing the rounds and is loved by adult and young ones alike, it only has one tiny problem. The game stutters and sometimes freezes and crashes. Numerous articles are available on the topic but none of them caters sufficiently to solving the problem. We have found that all of them are providing certain unique solutions that can help the users. So we decided to bring all these solutions at a single place in order to help players of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age enjoy the game.

Solutions

  1. Graphic Settings: Let 3D Application Decide
One gamer has reported that Final Fantasy XII was freezing on his PC and a major reason was because the V-Sync option was enabled. So he simply disabled it.
Then, in the 3D settings, he changed the settings from Quality to Performance.

    Changing the settings

This setting has been successfully tested on the GTX 1080 Graphics card.

  2. Reinstall the game
If the game keeps on freezing time and again, it can also possibly be due to the hard disk drive of your system. So, instead of just blaming the graphics card it is better to reinstall the game and give it a try.
If you have a spare hard drive use that for installing the game and see if it works.
  3. Patch it
There is a patch available to fix lags in Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. It was made by some of the gamers and isn’t an official release. So, install it at your own risk from this website.
The patch will work especially with GeForce cards and if you have some other card you need to test it first. For GeForce users, the game auto frames the camera itself.
  4. Turn off Power Saver mode
Most users have reported that the issue prevailed when they were using their laptops to play the game with the Power Saver mode turned on. When they turned it off, the game FPS normalized and the lagging decreased. (Source)
  5. Turn Graphics Settings Low
This is an obvious option but we have decided to add it because most users were arguing in forums that cut scenes animation don’t have anything to do with graphic settings. The cut scenes are part of the animations and they will lead to stuttering in the game play if they are on HD. So, simply decrease the graphics settings and the game will resume at normal pace.
  6. Play in Full Screen Borderless Window Mode
Another option is to play the game in Full Screen borderless windowed mode. The game will get a slight performance hit but it is still better than getting it to freeze every few seconds. Simply watch this tutorial to switch to borderless windowed gameplay.
Some games give the option of full screen borderless window mode. So, just check in the settings for Windowed and then select Yes next to it.
  7. Disable HID Compliant Device
One reason the stuttering continues every few seconds in Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is because the game is searching for game controllers. This can be fixed either by unplugging all the USB outlets that are of no use during the game play or by simply going to the Device Manager and disabling the HID Compliant Device. If you notice any side effects after disabling the device, simply turn it back on. (Source)
