Here are some tips on how you can get the better of the lag issue faced by F.E.A.R. in Windows 10.

Update Windows 10

First and foremost, you need to make sure that you have the latest Windows 10 patch installed as that could resolve some hardware issues and bugs related to any related conflicts. Some gamers have noted that once they’ve installed the Threshold 2 update, F.E.A.R. starts performing a lot better than before.

Update Graphics Card

As with any game, always make certain the Graphics Card is loaded with the latest drivers. Not certain what Graphics Card your computer is equipped with? Go to Control Panel -> Display -> Adjust resolution. Once in that menu, click on Advanced settings. Now you should be able to see the model number and all other allied information related to the Graphics Card. Now you can easily Google up the card and find the latest driver for your card, download and subsequently install it. This is typically the first step in getting better game performance for most games.

Background Programs

Many times background apps are the main culprit behind a painfully slow and full of lags PC performance. One prime example is an antivirus program that constantly scans the hard drives and incoming files. If you click the up arrow icon on the left of the battery icon on the taskbar, you should get a quick summary of some of the apps running in the background. Determine which ones are essential and which aren’t and close out the unessential ones.

To go a step further, scan the background programs by opening the Task Manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to bring up the menu).

Turn Off Steam Overlay

Go to the In-Game section of the Settings tab in the Steam client. Select the checkbox for Enable the Steam Overlay while in-Game and then click OK.

Switching Off the Overlay in Steam

Hopefully these tricks should make matters a lot better for you as far as playing F.E.A.R. goes. The last ditch effort would be to go in the game and reduce the resolution and graphical quality. This should surely help, but it will translate into a tangible reduction in the graphics quality, which will affect your overall gaming experience.
