You May Not Realise Windows 8 Internet May Run Slower if Not Optimized

Many of us who have a high speed internet connection ignore maintenance tasks that keep the speed of our internet at its optimum level. The more you use your internet and work with your PC, higher the chances Windows 8 internet may run slower. This is due to technical reasons ranging from your interne settings to internet-based plug-ins installed. In this article I’ll show you a few maintenance tasks that keep running your internet at the highest speed possible

Delete Cookies & Internet History Regularly

Web sites use cookies to store a piece of information. These cookies occupy a large space of your hard disk and cause your internet run slower. The same thing happens with your internet history. Hence it is good to clean cookies and internet history regularly so as to keep your internet speed at its optimum level. For Google Chrome:

  • 1. Click Wrench icon on the top right hand side of your screen.
  • 2. Select Tools | Clear Browsing Data.
  • 3. Select the beginning of time from Obliterate the following items from drop down box.
  • 4. Check-up all the boxes.
  • 5. Click Clear Browsing Data button.

Reset Internet Protocol

Resetting Internet Protocol involves resetting your WinSock catalog. It optimizes your internet by setting clean and default settings. Here’s how to do it:

  • 1. Click the Start button.
  • 3. Start Screen shall appear.
  • 4. Move the cursor on right and click on the Search box.
  • 5. Type Command Prompt in the Search box.
  • 6. Click Apps icon.
  • 7. Right click Command Prompt from the Search Results.
  • 8. Click Run as Administrator icon on the bottom of the Start Screen.
  • 9. Type the following command and press ENTER: NETSH INT IP RESET c:\RESETLOG.txt
  • 10. Type EXIT and press ENTER to quit.

Optimize Internet Settings

You may experience slowed internet speed if your internet settings are not well optimized. Optimize the internet settings for Windows 8 as below:


  • 1. Download, install and run RegInOut.
  • 2. Click the Internet Optimizer tab on the left side of your screen.
  • 3. Select your internet speed and click Analyze button.

  • 4. Click Optimize button to start optimizing your internet settings.
  • 5. Restart your web browser to experience faster internet connection.

Disable Websites Rating/ Security Plug-Ins

A Website Rating plug-in is used to determine whether the websites you visit are trustworthy or not. A security plug-in is usually comes with your antivirus software that blocks malicious websites and scans downloaded files. These plug-ins cause delays while processing your requests. It is because every website you visit is being sent to relevant servers to gather rating information. It also determines whether the website is blocked or not. In short, disable website rating/ security plug-ins to boost internet speed and avoid slowed internet. For Google Chrome:


  • 1. Type about: plugins in the Address Bar on top.

  • 2. Disable any website rating/ security plug-ins found.
  • 3. Re-start the web browser.

Update Network Drivers

To prevent slow internet problem on Windows 8 make sure you have updated Network Drivers.

  • 1. Visit the website of your Internet Service Provider to get the latest versions of your network drivers.
  • 2. Download appropriate drivers and save them to your Desktop.
  • 3. Click the Start button.
  • 4. Start screen shall appear.
  • 5. Move your cursor on the right and click the Search box.
  • 6. Type Device Manager in the Search box.
  • 7. Click the Settings icon.
  • 8. Device Manager shall open.
  • 9. Expand Network Adapters.
  • 10. Right click your network adapter and select Update Driver Software.
  • 11. Click Browse my computer for driver software in the new dialog.
  • 12. Click Browse button.
  • 13. Select the downloaded driver file.
  • 14. Click OK | Next.
  • 15. Click Close button after successful completion.
