Speed Up your Computer ,For Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 Computers to Speed them Up

What are the tweaks and tricks to speed up your PC ?

   

1.Disable Unwanted Programs from Running at the Windows Startup.

When you start your computer, a number of programs and services run in the background. Many of these programs and services may be unnecessary depending on their functionality. For example, automatic updates checker, system tray shortcuts, etc.

 

That is why your computer runs slow at the startup and sometimes freezes. Disable the programs and services that you no longer need. You can use a PC Optimizer software or do below steps:

 
  • Click Start.
  • Type MsConfig in the Search box.
  • From the Startup tab, uncheck unnecessary items. Then, click Apply.
  • Do the same for the Services tab after making Hide all Microsoft Services as checked.
  • Click OK after completion.
  • Restart the system.
 


3. Remove Junk Files from your Computer.

Junk files include temporary files, temporary internet files, downloaded program files, internet cache, log files and other files that you no longer require.

 

These junk files occupy a large disk space and cause your computer to run slow. To speed up PC, you must delete these files and free up your disk space.

 
  • Click Start.
  • Click All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk CleanUp.
  • Select a disk that you wish to clean up.
  • Press ENTER to continue.
  • Follow the instructions that you get on your screen.
 

4. Defragment the Disk Drives.

The disk drives may get fragmented. Files may divide in multiple parts rather than in continuous manner. This improves the performance of retrieving the file contents and using them by the program installed.

 

To speed up PC, defragment your disk drives as below:

 
  • Click Start.
  • Type Disk Defragmenter and press ENTER.
  • Select the disk drives that you wish to defragment.
  • Click Defragment disks button to begin the task.

5. Defrag Windows Registry.

Windows Registry can become fragmented and cause your computer to run slow. It affects the speed of retrieving registry values and performing the corresponding tasks. Defragmenting it with a Registry Defragmenter may speed up PC.

 
  • Download a PC Optimizer software that includes Registry Defragmenter.
  • Click Defragmenter tab.
  • Click Analyze button.
  • After the process is completed, click Defragment Now button.
 

6. Update Drivers

To improve the graphics, multimedia and gaming performance, update all your drivers. Update your graphics, sound and network driver from the corresponding manufacturer’s websites. Otherwise, download and install latest patches for your operating system through Windows Updates. Click Start | All Programs | Windows Update.

 

7.Set Windows for Best Performance.

Setting your operating system for best performance rather than best appearance will speed up PC. To do so, follow the steps mentioned below.

 
  • Click Start.
  • Right click Computer icon.
  • Select Properties.
  • Click Advanced System Settings.
  • Click Advanced tab.
  • Click Settings under Performance frame.
  • Click Visual Effects tab.
  • Select the option Adjust for best performance and click Apply | OK | OK.
 

8.Uninstall the Programs you No Longer Use.

To speed up PC, remove the programs that you no longer use. Here are the steps to do so:

 
  • Click Start.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Click Programs | Uninstall a Program.
  • Select a program and click Uninstall button.
  • Follow the instructions on your screen and reboot the system after it has completed.
 

9.Disable Windows Features

Another way to speed up PC is to disable the unwanted Windows Features. Do the below steps:

  • Click Start.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Click Programs.
  • Click Turn Windows Features On or Off from Programs and Features category.
  • Uncheck the unwanted features and then click OK button.
