Load Selective Start-up

Selective Start-up, as the name describes, is a boot type that loads minimal programs and services. Windows 8 may crash due to faulty start-up applications and hence it is important to restrict third party programs and services.

  • Click the Start button.
  • Start screen shall appear.
  • Move the cursor on right hand side to focus on the Search box.
  • Type MsConfig in the Search box.
  • Click Apps icon.
  • Click System Configuration from the Search Results.
  • System Configuration shall open.
  • Click the General tab.
  • Select the Selective Start-up option.
  • Now click the Boot tab.
  • Check-up the Safe Boot checkbox.
  • Select Minimal option.
  • Check-up the Make all boot settings permanent checkbox.
  • Click Apply | OK.

Run System File Checker

Windows 8 can crash due to corrupt or damaged system files. In such cases, System File Checker can help detect and repair damaged system files.

  • Insert Genuine Windows 8 installation DVD ROM.
  • Click the Start button.
  • Start Screen shall appear.
  • Move the cursor on right hand side of the screen. Focus on the Search box.
  • Type Command Prompt in the Search box.

  • Right click Command Prompt from the Search Results.
  • Click Run as Administrator icon on the bottom.
  • Type the following command and press ENTER:
  • sfc /scannow

  • Type Control Panel in the Search box.

  • Control Panel shall open.
  • Scroll it down to click More Settings option.
  • Click Programs.
  • Click Turn Windows Features on or Off under Programs and Features category.
  • Windows Features dialog shall appear.
  • Uncheck the Hyper-V checkbox.
  • Click OK.
  • Let the computer uninstall Hyper-V.

  • Scroll down the Control Panel window to click General.
  • Click Get Started button under Refresh your PC without affecting your files section.
  • Click Next. Follow the on screen instructions.
