How to Fix Error 1017 in Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista/XP

Troubleshooting Steps

1017 appears during synchronization with Microsoft Office programs. Here are the guidelines to repair this issue.

 

• Check Event Viewer
• Enable Administrator Account
• Run System File Checker
• Reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework

 

Check Event Viewer

Event Viewer lets you check event logs. It displays significant information about system events. You can send the error report to Microsoft after an error message appears.

 

Windows 8

 

• Press Windows Key and W simultaneously. Search panel appears.
• In Search box type “ev” (without quotes) and press ENTER.
• There will be three sections.
• Click Windows Logs in the first section, then select Application.
• Check the error code

 

Windows 7

 

• Click Start | Control Panel.
• Click System and Maintenance | Administrative Tools | Event Viewer.
• Enter Administrator password, if prompted.
• Now check detailed information about signification event.

 

Enable Administrator Account

Log-in from the administrator user account. Programs will get administrative permissions and event ID 1000 wouldn’t appear again.Check your account type. If it is a standard user account, log in as an administrator.

 

Windows 8:

 

Perform the following changes in Windows 8 to enable built-in administrator account:

 

• Right-click My Computer.
• Select Manage.
• Click Local Users and Groups under Computer Management.
• After expanding Local Users and Groups click on Users.
• You can see administrator’s account on right pane. Right click it and select Properties
• Unmark “Account is disabled” box and set a password for it.
• You can see administrator account in the list of users.

 

Windows 7 and Vista

 

• Open Command Prompt and right-click “Run as Administrator”.
• In command prompt type following command.
  NET USER ADMINISTRATOR /ACTIVE:YES
• On the command prompt you will see message- “Command completed successfully”
• The procedure is same on Windows 7 and Windows Vista

 

Run System File Checker

 

System file checker scans and fixes system file errors automatically. Run it to get rid of event ID 1000. This process would make sure all original files installed in Windows are not modified/ corrupted.

 

Windows 8

 

• Go to Start Screen.
• Right-click on Empty Space and scroll down to Command Prompt.
• Tap Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator
• In Command Prompt, type following command:
  sfc /scannow
• 5. It will take some time to finish the process

 

Windows 7 and Vista

 

• Click on Start button and select Command Prompt.
• Right-click on Command Prompt to Run as Administrator.
• In the Command Prompt, type following command:
  sfc /scannow
• Process would take some time

 

Reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework

 

Microsoft .NET Framework is a known reason behind error event ID 1000. Try reinstalling .NET Framework to fix your problem.

Windows 8

 

If you are using Windows 8 on your PC, you would get .NET 4.5 by default. But in some cases your application is not supporting an advanced version of .NET framework. In this situation you need to get .net framework 3.5 or earlier. Follow the steps given below to reinstall .net framework on Windows 8.

 

• Open Start Screen and type “Turn Windows”
• Click on Settings.
• Tap Turn Windows Features On or Off.
• See the dialogue box on screen and there would be .NET framework 3.5 (includes .net 2.0 and 3.0).
• Mark this checkbox without downloading anything else.
• Now you can run applications without any error.

 

Windows 7 and Vista

 

Before you are performing anything on Windows 7 or Windows Vista, UAC appears on screen. User Account Control can limit apps to use standard privileges even if you have administrator rights. Turn OFF UAC before downloading any trusted application on your system.

 

• Open Start and type “UAC” in Search box
• Click on Change User Account Control Settings
• Drag slider down and click on OK
